Surgim is built by a multidisciplinary team combining soft robotics, product design, gastrointestinal physiology, and colorectal surgery.
Originating from research at Imperial College London, our team works closely across engineering and clinical practice to develop programmable physical organ simulators for surgical training and medical device development.
Yukun Ge
CEO
Yukun leads Surgim’s product development, integrating soft robotics, mechanical design, embedded control, and user-centred product translation.
He is a PhD candidate in Design Engineering at Imperial College London, working at the intersection of medical device innovation, soft robotics,
and product development. With a background in product design and engineering, Yukun focuses on translating clinical needs into manufacturable, usable simulation systems.
Prof. Thrishantha Nanayakkara
R&D Director
Prof. Nanayakkara provides technical and strategic guidance across
soft robotics, embodied intelligence, haptics, and physical human–robot interaction.
He is Professor of Robotics at the Dyson School of Design Engineering, Imperial College London, and Director of the Morph Lab. His experience in translational robotics and prior spinout formation supports Surgim’s pathway from laboratory prototype to scalable platform technology.
Isra Sulevani
Clinical Research Advisor
Isra supports Surgim’s clinical research and physiological translation, with a focus on colonic and rectal anatomy, motility physiology, and clinically relevant simulation requirements.
Her work helps connect physiological evidence with design decisions, including anatomical geometry, flexures, and motility patterns.
Emma Carrington
Clinical Advisor — Colorectal Surgery & GI Motility
Emma advises Surgim on anatomical realism, gastrointestinal motility, clinically relevant training scenarios, and validation planning.
Her expertise helps ensure that Surgim’s organ simulators reflect real procedural challenges and support meaningful training and device-testing use cases.
James Kinross
Clinical Advisor — Colorectal Surgery
James advises Surgim on clinical requirements, surgical use cases, and validation strategy for colorectal and endoscopy-related applications.
His clinical expertise supports the development of realistic, relevant simulation scenarios for training, benchmarking, and future therapeutic modules.
